Together with West Flanders, the province of East Flanders forms the historic county of Flanders. The area has many salt marshes and silt, which explains why the Latin name Flandrensis, which refers to this, is mentioned as the origin of the name. East Flanders has many beguinages and belfries that are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The beautiful places in this province are therefore well worth a visit.
Cozy student city
Like many university cities, Ghent is also a pleasant city with a historical core. Located on the Lys and Scheldt, it once flourished economically, which radiates from the beautiful monumental buildings.
