North Brabant

Few people will know that Brabant is derived from Braecbant, which means marshy land. Fortunately, nowadays it is not so bad with the swamp, because large parts are wooded and thus released from an excess of water. Until the 17th century, North Brabant was part of the Duchy of Brabant, most of which today is located in Belgium. In Brabant there are still many wild soils such as drifting sand areas and heaths. The Kempen and Biesbosch are the most famous destination for tourists, in addition to cities such as' s-Hertogenbosch, Breda and Tilburg.

Characteristic market square

The fortified town of Geertruidenberg with its characteristic market square was once an important trading center. In the 16th and 17th centuries it formed part of the Zuiderwaterlinie to stop the French.
