Provence-Alpes – Côte-d’Azur

Provence-Alpes - Côte-d'Azur

Who doesn't know Provence with its wonderful climate and proximity to the French Alps? Here are many places that were often the setting for French feature films. And motorcycle tours here are almost always fascinating.

Movie town

The film world has also discovered Cucuron. The movie "Le hussard sur le toit" was shot in this authentic Provencal town at the foot of the Luberon. The large pond in the center of this beautiful town is also surprising.

Le Castellet

Medieval town

A beautiful medieval town is Le Castellet. Those who enjoy browsing in shops and galleries are in the right place here.

Beautiful village

The beautiful village of Lurs is situated somewhat elevated with a beautiful view over the valley of the Durance. We found this village by chance during one of our motorcycle rides.

Tourist town

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is one of the most famous places in Provence. Above the town hangs a (once silver) star on a 220 meter long chain.

Beautiful village

Located on a hill, a small village overlooks its surroundings. Saint-Martin-de-Castillon is a typical Provencal village where some 750 people live, but it seems extinct.

City and citadel

Sisteron is located on the Route Napoléon through the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The citadel towers above the city with a beautiful view over the Durance and the rock on the other side of the Baume.

Highest located city

The highest city in France is Briançon. The strategic location used to be so important that the city was extensively fortified with fortifications and fortresses. The architect was the soldier Vauban, who took care of the fortifications in many places in France.

Beautiful routes

Gorges de la Méouge

Gorges de la Méouge

Motorcycle ride through a gorge

We drive this D942 up through the gorge in which the Méouge flows. This gorge is an attraction for walkers, swimmers and kayakers, but also for geologists because of the special stones.

The tunnel in the D942 is a difficult obstacle for large motorhomes, especially because of the tight bend!

Lac de Serre-Ponçon

Lac de Serre-Ponçon

Motorcycle ride around long lake

The Lac de Serre-Ponçon reservoir with its clear blue water invites you for a beautiful trip all around. From the surrounding mountains you have a beautiful view over this 20 kilometer long lake.

This route is also suitable for campers!

Motorcycle ride in the Verdon

The Sainte-Croix lake is located on the edge of the French Alps. A tour around this lake will take you into the varied landscape of the beautiful Verdon.

Col d'Izoard

Snow on the pass

At the top of the Col d'Izoard (2360 m) in the Hautes-Alpes we were surprised by snow. No wonder, because we drove the route in October! The mountain is often included in the Tour-de-France.

This route is also suitable for campers!

Col de Garcinets

Motorcycle ride on beautiful mountain road

The road over the Col des Garcinets has a not very good road surface and traffic barely drives there. Too bad, because it is a beautiful mountain road with beautiful views.

This route is not recommended for campers!

Col de Vars

Motorcycle ride on old military road

The 2109 meter high Col de Vars forms the border between the departments of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence at fitting height. This little tourist road was built by the French army between 1890 and 1893.

Gorges de Daluis

Amusement park feeling

The Gorges-du-Verdon is the most famous of the French gorges. But the Gorges-de-Daluis is a very special one, because it gives you the feeling that you are in the Dutch Efteling when you drive through it.

This route is not recommended for large motorhomes!

Col de la Bonette

Motorcycle ride over col

In the Mercantour National Park is a 2715 meter high mountain pass that connects Jausiers and Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée: the Col de la Bonette.

This route is also suitable for campers!

Col du Galibier

Motorcycle ride over col

The Col du Galibier connects Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and Briançon via the Col du Télégraphe in the north and the Col du Lautaret in the south. The pass has often been included in the Tour-de-France. Our passage in October 2010 took place under winter conditions.

Beautiful villages

We cross the Luberon by motorbike and pass many nice places. Along the way, whether or not from the motorbike, we take a look at the nice places Céreste, Reillanne, Viens, Saint-Martin-de-Castillon and Simiane-la-Rotonde.

This route is also suitable for campers,
except in Sirmione-la-Rotonde!
